Dr. Ernesto Collazo is one of the founders of the Center for Visual Correction at OJOS, Inc. located at Hipodromo street in Santurce. The Center for Visual Correction is the largest refractive surgery center in Puerto Rico with over 30 participating surgeons.

This strength in numbers has allowed us to make the necessary investments to remain at the cutting edge of refractive surgery technology since the center’s inception over two decades ago.

We currently use the VISX Star S4 excimer laser exclusively to perform all our refractive procedures. The VISX WaveScan is performed in preparation of CustomVue treatment for both nearsighted and farsighted Custom candidates.


The VISX Star S4 utilizes a 3-D Active Trak system, which locks the laser into position on the cornea ensuring accuracy in treatment even if movement of the eye occurs. Unlike other systems, with Active Trak the doctor does not have to dilate your pupils resulting in a comfortable, quicker recovery time of a non-dilated pupil. Seven variable-sized beams give the doctor greater flexibility and allow for faster, smooth, precise corneal treatment. The treatment zone is wider than almost all pupils and is the only laser with computerized centration.

The VISX excimer laser was the first in the United States to receive approval from the FDA for the treatment of low, moderate and high myopia (nearsightedness), low to moderate ranges of hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. With the new Wave Print VISX technology, CustomVue treatment is now available for both myopia and hyperopia Custom candidates. IntraLase Custom LASEK technology allows even better opportunity to achieve one’s personal best vision correction. Patented Eye Tracking System detects all relevant eye movements and repositions laser beam to match movements.


"The Fingerprint of Your Vision" Because no two eyes are alike, each eye has a unique map, or fingerprint. "The Fingerprint of Your Vision" defines unique characteristics in each individual's vision and is produced by WaveScan technology.

WaveScan Technology, originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions in space, has now been adapted for eyecare. A single beam of infrared laser light is passed into the eye and focused on the retina. The light is then reflected off the retina, passed back through the eye, through a lenslet array to a sensor, and then analyzed from 200 different aspects to create a map of the eye - or fingerprint of vision. This technology uncovers unique characteristics of the eye never measured before using standard methods for glasses and contact lenses.

The CustomVue Procedure

On procedure day, you will be seated in a reclined position. Anesthetic drops will be placed in your eyes and a flap will be created on your cornea. Your individualized treatment information is transferred from the WaveScan to the laser in order to drive the CustomVue procedure. The actual laser procedure typically takes several seconds. The majority of individuals feel no pain during the procedure. After CustomVue, you will notice results immediately, and your vision will continue to improve over the next few days. You will be scheduled for a follow-up visit the next day, and again 3 days and one week after the initial procedure.
